The Cost of Winning
In2018, the Panthers, a nearly 200-year-old Catholic school in the center of a neighborhood beset with gun violence and severe socioeconomic issues, were booted from their private school league for being "too good"–a sequence of events that sparked allegations of racial bias. Without a league to play in, the team devised its own schedule, traveling across the country in search of elite competition and opportunities to promote its players as they competed for sports scholarships.
