Globe Trekker
Globe Trekker is an experience tourism television show. The British series started broadcasting in 1994 and was motivated by the Lonely Planet travelbooks. Globe Trekker is broadcast over 40 countries across two continents.
Each episode comes with a host, called a traveller, that travels with a camera team to some country -- frequently, a place that is exotic --and experiences the sounds, sights, and culture which the location has to offer. Episodes feature city, beach, dive, shopping, history, festival, and food manuals.
In order to provide a more real look in culture to audiences the show frequently goes much beyond popular tourist destinations. Presenters take part in various aspects of regional living, such as seeing a mining area or attending a wedding. They address the viewer directly, acting as tourists-turned-tour guides, however, are filmed discovering locations in sequences that are unrehearsed and reaching locals. Globe Trekker sometimes includes interviews with backpackers who talk about tips on separate traveling in that nation.
