Larceny
John Payne is the scumbag and lowlife rat who makes an effort to profit off of people's postwar patriotism and pain. He manipulates a war widow, played by Joan Caulfied, into parting with her life's savings in order to pay for a memorial that does not exist. Payne experiences pangs of conscience when he falls in love with the widow; nevertheless, he does not take into account his con-artist boss, played by Dan Duryea, who has a tendency to bolster his arguments with muscle and bullets.
