Black Magic for White Boys
An aging magician devises a diabolical plan to salvage his piece of old New York by employing genuine black magic at a small New York theater. In Onur Tukel's latest film BLACK MAGIC FOR WHITE BOYS, a weird comedy about gentrification, race, and bodily autonomy in New York City, harsh truths and magical illusions come together. Tukel has entirely rebuilt a 2017 Tribeca four-episode series into a grotesque and endearingly bizarre dark comedy with almost 50 minutes of additional video. This is a low-budget, intimate allegory about the changing look of New York City that balances edgy misanthropy with a dash of funny sweetness.
