The Departure
Ittetsu Nemoto, a hapless and rebellious former punk musician turned Buddhist priest, is the subject of this intimate character study. In Japan, he is credited for saving the lives of many suicidal men and women by his insightful and loving advice. But, as he approaches middle age, with a wife and a young son of his own, Nemoto learns that his life is in jeopardy due to heart illness, which is exacerbated by the enormous emotional burden of caring for those who no longer want to live. Can he find the strength to rescue himself when protecting others takes such a toll?
