The Ben Stiller Show
The Ben Stiller Show is the name of not one but two different sketch comedy television shows that originally aired on MTV from 1990 to 1991 and then moved to Fox from September 1992 to January 1993. Both of these shows starred Ben Stiller. Ben Stiller, Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo, and Bob Odenkirk are the four main cast members of the show airing on Fox. In addition, character actor John F. O'Donohue appeared in each and every episode. It contained a large number of comedic skits that were filmed, many of which made fun of popular culture from the mid-1980s to the early-1990s. Due to the low numbers, Fox decided to discontinue the series after only airing 12 episodes, despite the fact that the reviews were generally positive. The Ben Stiller Show, in contrast to the vast majority of sketch comedy shows, did not feature a live studio audience or a laugh track. This was the only sketch comedy program on Fox that did not include an accompanying laugh track. The format of the show was replicated in the semi-spinoff that was called The Andy Dick Show. Following its discontinuation, the series was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety Series in the year 1993.
