Kindred: The Embraced
John Leekley Productions and Spelling Television created Kindred: The Embraced, an American television series. The series began on Fox on April 2, 1996, and ran for eight episodes before being canceled on May 9, 1996. It was loosely inspired on the role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade. During his investigation of accused mobster Julian Luna, San Francisco Police Detective Frank Kohanek discovers his city is home to countless vampires. Julian is the city's "prince," ruling over five clans of vampires known collectively as "The Kindred." The vampires exist by "masquerading" as humans, and Julian zealously enforces the regulations that govern them in order to maintain their secrecy. As they work together to avoid a vampire war, Julian and Frank create an uneasy friendship, as Julian battles with his romantic affections for human reporter Caitlin Byrne. The series' eight episodes have been published on VHS and DVD.
