Grand Star
Grand Star, dubbed La Compagnie des Glaces in France, is a science fiction television series co-produced by Canada, France, and Belgium that premiered on Space and A-Channel in September 2007. The show is set in an apocalyptic future 100 years after a cataclysmic nuclear explosion on the Moon sends the Earth into a new Ice Age, and it revolves around the interactions of a small community of Earth survivors and the returning descendants of colonists who escaped Earth before the disaster. The series is based on Georges-Jean Arnaud's novel series La Compagnie des glaces. In 2007, a multiplayer strategy game based on the TV series' universe was released. In the game, players compete against one another, utilizing their trains to amass funds for the control of energy sources. Transarctica, a French video game, was likewise based on the novel series and was hastily translated into English. The first novel in the series, The Ice Company, was translated into English in 2010 by Jean-Marc Lofficier and Randy Lofficier. ISBN 978-1-935558-31-6.
