Asia – Secret Lives, Hidden Places
The animals and people who live in Asia's most beautiful National Parks share the same backyard, hidden from the prying eyes of tourists. Asia's endangered environments, unlike those in North America and Europe, virtually invariably have human residents. This show focuses on the relationship between animals and humans. Meet gentle Shinto people who have learned how to live in the shadow of an active volcano, a tribal man who cares for orphan elephants by day while wild elephants threaten his village every night, and see how the spirits of a tropical island off Borneo stopped a local Imam from cutting down the rainforest. The river plains of India and the granite peaks of China's sacred mountains are not the only places in Asia where one-horned rhinoceroses, Asiatic elephants, and Guizhou golden monkeys can be found. The result is a mix of fantastic storytelling, interesting characters, and rare and imperiled species in a dramatic and beautiful setting.
