Reaching for the Moon
Elizabeth Bishop travels to visit with Mary. The timid Elizabeth is inundated by sensuality. She's the antithesis into Mary partner, architect Lota de Macedo Soares. Even though freezing initially, the architect makes a drama for Elizabeth and the poet succumbs to the advances of Lota. Mary is covetous, but unconventional Lota is determined to have women at all costs. Their ménage à trois is thrown off balance if Lota starts focus on her biggest job to date, designing Parque do Flamengo in Rio. Elizabeth takes an teaching post in the united states and the women drift. Lota, in all other times is inconsolable. This triangle works from the backdrop of the military coup of 1964.
