Passion
Filmmaker Maja Borg, freed from an abusive relationship, investigates Christian and BDSM rituals. There appears to be no common ground between the two at first appearance, yet possibly the healing powers of religion and subculture are more closely related than one might think. Borg explores the European queer scene and the Christian legacy of northern Europe to go back to her own core by facing herself and her deep personal traumas head-on in a dramatic fashion. In 'Passion,' where literary and cinematic traditions converge in a ritualistic totality, passion and suffering are two sides of the same complex case. While Borg is tested physically and psychologically throughout the film, the abstract elements add a feeling of humanity to the interactions between the characters. Perhaps it will be this shared humanity that forges an intangible but meaningful bond between BDSM and theology, on both an emotional and a spiritual level.
