North West Mounted Police
Dusty Rivers, a Texas Ranger ("Isn't that a contradiction in terms?" asks another character), travels to Canada in the 1880s in quest of Jacques Corbeau, a murder suspect. He finds himself in the midst of the Riel Rebellion, in which Métis (people of French and Native ancestry) and Natives are fighting for their own country. Dusty is smitten by April Logan, a nurse who is also a favorite of Mountie Jim Brett. During the fights between the rebels and the Mounties, April's brother has an affair with Courbeau's daughter Louvette, which causes problems. Dusty is adamant about bringing Corbeau back to Texas despite everything (and April, too, if he can manage it.)
