Limite
Limite is the only feature film directed and written by Mário Peixoto, who was only 22 years old when he created it. This avant-garde silent masterpiece, inspired by a haunting André Kertész photograph on the cover of a French magazine, centers on a man and two women lost at sea, with flashbacks propelled by music by Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and others. Limite, a pioneering work of independent South American cinema, was notoriously difficult to watch for much of the twentieth century. It's a groundbreaking work whose eternal visual poetry continues to captivate.
