Cousin Bette
Cousin Bette is a poor and lonely seamstress who tries to integrate herself into the lives of her brother-in-law, Baron Hulot, and her niece, Hortense Hulot, following the death of her prominent and wealthy sister. Having failed to do so, she seeks solace and companionship in an attractive young sculptor whom she rescues from famine. But the promising artist falls in love with another lady, Hortense, and Bette becomes a bitter spinster. Bette devises a plan to exact vengeance on the family that rejected her down and snatched her only love. She progressively destroys the lives of people who have scorned her with the help of well-known courtesan Jenny Cadine.
